We had our first snowstorm of the season - a three day blizzard. We were thrown into freezing drizzle, snow, hurricane winds, and bitter cold one week after Halloween.
I should have known that we were in for some difficult weather when the deer started showing up in large herds. The snow and wind started Thursday night and became nasty in the wee hours. I even called Jack's school to make sure it was still open (yep, they were). The school bus may have taken a few tries to make it up the little drive at the bus stop. But, by 9:45, the school had called me to say they were sending Jack home on the bus as the buses were not to run later in the day (weird concept but the "out-of-town" students were sent home; "in-town" students had to stay in school). So, Jack got his first SNOW DAY!
I remember snow days being the best growing up - you could be lazy or expend all of your energy weathering the weather! Jack romped in the drifts for a while before even dropping off his backpack inside.
| Sitting in the plow truck. We all piled into the plow truck on Sunday to knock down the snow drifts on the Auto Tour. Ran into a few hunters from Canada who really enjoyed the area. |
| Ruddy ducks going for a swim on frozen Lake Bowdoin. We watched a few coyotes hunting on the ice, along with a flock of swans looking to land. |
