Huntin' Time

This post is not for the squeamish or the anti-hunters.  It is fall, this is what we do, and this is what fills our freezers for the year.  Amidst the elk excursions, hunting season had arrived.

This is Gauge's first year hunting.  She is definitely a "bird" dog...loves using her sniffer to find pheasants, attentively cocking her ears and listening to the geese fly overhead, chasing anything with wings that lands in the yard.  Todd took Gauge on a week-long goose hunt in Canada mid-October where her retrieving skills really shone.  While it was pleasant not having to deal with the dog while she was away, she was missed by all and I had no one to keep the recliner warm for me!  ;)

Gauge's first duck hunt.

Gauge's first pheasant hunt.  She is most natural at the upland gaming business.

Todd was also able to squeeze in some antelope hunting before he left on the big goose chase.  One day is all it took to harvest a nice pronghorn, although I don't think Todd appreciated all the cactus needles stuck in his shins from kneeling in the grass.
